Vision, mission, history

The SiNANO Institute is engaged for the future of Europe’s semiconductor
science and technology

Our mission

To secure the future of Europe’s semiconductor
science and technology by:

  • Mobilising and nurturing the European research and innovation community,
  • Promoting and strengthening synergies in the field through our membership,
  • Working with industry to accelerate innovation,
  • Ensuring the growth of skilful talent in an inclusive and diverse environment with equal opportunities for all

Cooperation and science at the core

Over the years, our experts have taken part in many activities dedicated to anticipate and build the future of semiconductors in Europe and beyond. We provided white papers and position papers aimed at the scientific community as well as European stakeholders. The SiNANO Institute is also the European representative for IRDS, and we regularly contribute to IRDS roadmaps.

In 2023, the SiNANO Institute has welcomed the European Commission’s Communication on ‘A Chips Act for Europe’, a timely and ambitious policy underpinning Key Digital Technologies along the whole value chain of micro and nano electronics Components and Systems. The SiNANO Institute embraced this engagement by proposing a Position Paper and is today involved in the discussion regarding the European Chips Act 2.

Our history

  • The SiNANO Institute was created in 2008 following the strong interest of the European Commission at the end of the successful Network of Excellence SiNANO.
  • SiNANO is now recognized by European Commission and Industry as the leading European Institution representing the Nanoelectronics Academic Community.
